Angel Reese Shatters WNBA Rebounding Records in Landmark Game

In a remarkable display of athletic prowess, Angel Reese of the Atlanta Dream has established a new WNBA single-game rebounding record, pulling down an impressive 26 rebounds during a recent matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks. This historic feat not only secured the Dream’s 78-71 victory but also allowed Reese to surpass the previous season record for total rebounds, a remarkable achievement in her continuously impressive career.

Reese’s performance eclipsed the longstanding record of 24 rebounds held by Chamique Holdsclaw, which had been set on May 23, 2003, while she played for the Washington Mystics. With a remarkable 458 rebounds this season, Reese now stands seven rebounds ahead of A’ja Wilson’s record established in 2024, underscoring her incredible talent and resilience on the court.

During the postgame interview, Reese reflected on her performance, noting, “Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight I couldn’t hit anything, so I knew I was going to be able to get them on the rebounding side. I just want to be there for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win.” Her dedication to her team and her ability to adapt through challenging circumstances showcase the depth of her skills as a player.

Reese concluded the game with 11 points, marking her league-leading 27th double-double of the season after an essential basket with just 13.9 seconds remaining. Her impressive work on the boards has captured the admiration of teammates, with Dream guard Allisha Gray expressing her awe at Reese’s rebounding capabilities.

A three-time WNBA All-Star, Reese previously set a rookie record of 13.1 rebounds per game and holds the all-time league record for 15 consecutive double-doubles, achieved while playing for the Chicago Sky in 2024. She has now led the league in rebounding for three consecutive seasons and continues to do so this year, averaging 12.0 rebounds per game.

The Atlanta Dream, boasting a record of 25-13, have exhibited a dominant performance against the Sparks by winning their last nine encounters. Gray led the Dream’s scoring efforts with 20 points, while Rhyne Howard contributed 18 points, becoming the latest player to surpass the 3,000 career points milestone within the franchise. In contrast, Nneka Ogwumike stood out for the Sparks, finishing with 27 points and 16 rebounds as her team continues to strive for improvement.

As Reese continues to break records and lead her team, her influence is increasingly felt across the league, representing a transformative era in women’s basketball.
