Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a significant step toward enhancing its integrity by dismissing over 40 employees accused of corruption and financial misconduct over the past three years. This announcement was made by Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the EFCC, during an event that underscored the agency’s recent achievements.
According to reports from Nigerian media outlets, five of the dismissed employees are currently facing prosecution, while preparations are underway to pursue legal action against others. Between October 2023 and July 2026, the commission received an astounding 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, and filed 14,476 court cases, leading to 10,872 convictions. In just the first half of 2026, the agency recorded 1,370 convictions from 1,889 filings, further illustrating its commitment to legal accountability.
Olukoyede highlighted the EFCC’s accomplishments, noting that the commission has successfully recovered 1.23 trillion naira (approximately 3 million) during this period.
