The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time, but the Iran-aligned Houthi movement in Yemen has claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting it targeted the Aramco refinery with precision using a drone. Military spokesperson for the Houthi-led government in Sanaa, Yahya Saree, stated that the drone strike was a direct response to an alleged violation of airspace in Yemen’s Saada and Hajjah provinces by Saudi drones.
