The United States government has implemented sanctions against nine individuals it associates with Hezbollah, alleging their involvement in actions that undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty. This initiative reflects a broader US strategy aimed at dismantling the financial networks of the group globally.

In an official release, the US Treasury Department stated these individuals have been designated due to their roles in obstructing peace efforts in Lebanon and hindering the disarmament process of Hezbollah. The sanctioned individuals include members of Lebanon’s parliamentary body, an Iranian diplomat, and security officials within Lebanese institutions accused of misusing their authority.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, a spokesperson for the State Department urged those involved in Lebanese politics, business, or security services to reconsider their alignment with Hezbollah, warning that there would be significant repercussions for actions that compromise the sovereignty of the Lebanese government.

Among those sanctioned are four prominent members of Hezbollah, including Mohamed Abdel-Mottaleb Fanich, a leader within the group’s executive council, and Nizammeddine Fadlallah, a sitting member of the Lebanese parliament. Notably, Iranian ambassador-designate to Lebanon, Mohammad Reza Sheibani, is also included in this list alongside two security officials from the Hezbollah-aligned Amal Movement.
