US Greenlights .6 Billion Weapons Deal: Attack Helicopters and Assault Vehicles for Israel

NewsUS Greenlights .6 Billion Weapons Deal: Attack Helicopters and Assault Vehicles for Israel

The United States government has sanctioned a substantial .67 billion in arms sales to Israel, a move made public amid a fragile ceasefire in the ongoing conflict affecting the Gaza Strip. This announcement was made by the U.S. Department of State, which noted approval for a range of military equipment that includes 30 Apache attack helicopters and infantry assault vehicles, with the latter valued at approximately .98 billion.

Reportedly, Boeing and Lockheed Martin will be responsible for delivering the Apache helicopters, with an additional military contract worth 0 million and a further 0 million allocated for light utility helicopters. The State Department emphasized that these sales align with the U.S. commitment to Israel’s security and aim to bolster the nation’s self-defense capabilities, a posture deemed vital for U.S. national interests.

Amid rising tensions and ongoing conflict, the situation in Gaza remains dire. Since October 2023, it is reported that over 71,662 lives have been lost due to hostilities in the area. Despite a ceasefire established on October 10, 2025, there have been numerous reports of continued violence, with Israeli forces conducting airstrikes that have resulted in nearly 500 fatalities in the last few months. This ongoing situation has drawn the attention and concern of various human rights organizations and United Nations experts who call for an end to arms shipments, claiming that such measures exacerbate the crisis.

In addition to the sales to Israel, a separate approval has been granted for a billion package to Saudi Arabia that includes 730 Patriot missiles and corresponding equipment. This acquisition aims to enhance Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities, allowing it to better protect its land forces and contribute to regional security architecture.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, speaking with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently, assured that the kingdom would not permit its territory to be used for military confrontations against Iran, highlighting its commitment to regional stability.

As the international community continues to respond to these developments, the focus on arms agreements underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the Middle East, revealing the delicate balance of power and security that influences both regional and global affairs.
