The negotiations during COP30 faced challenges, including a fire that prompted the evacuation of thousands of delegates at the conference venue. Fortunately, although nineteen individuals were treated for smoke inhalation, no severe injuries were reported. However, persistent issues with electrical wiring and infrastructure have characterized the event, which is taking place near the Amazon rainforest.
Amid these challenges, thousands of protesters have rallied in Belem, advocating for the voices of Indigenous peoples and environmental activists to be prioritized.
