Thousands of mourners gathered across North Macedonia this week to pay tribute to the victims of a tragic nightclub fire that had occurred over the weekend, which resulted in substantial loss and injury. The blaze erupted during a concert by the hip-hop duo DNK at the Pulse nightclub in Kocani, around 3 a.m. local time. Officials confirmed that the fire, sparked by flares igniting the ceiling, claimed the lives of at least 59 individuals and injured over 155 others, leading to a profound wave of sorrow throughout the nation.

The primary funeral services took place in Kocani, a town of about 25,000 residents situated approximately 100 kilometers east of the capital, Skopje. Here, 30 of the victims were laid to rest amid a public display of love and remembrance. As the investigation into the incident continues, authorities have detained more than 20 individuals, including seven police officers, amid discussions surrounding fire safety regulations and the legitimacy of permits for the nightclub. Health Minister Arben Taravari provided updates on the condition of the injured, stating that 72 individuals remained hospitalized in North Macedonia while others were receiving care abroad. Reports indicated that the majority of these victims are showing improvements in their conditions, which has brought some relief amid the sorrow.
